Project Overview
What is being proposed?
- A State-of-the-Art High-Speed Fiber-to-the-Home Network
- The network reaches ALL households and businesses in participating towns
- Community-owned
- Subscriber-funded
- No line item on town budgets
- No bonds issued
What does it get you?
- Very fast internet
- Television
- Telephone
Why Fiber?
- The current infrastructure is substandard, and upgrading it will only get it so far. So fiber will replace the existing infrastructure.
- The U.S. is behind the rest of the developed world in providing broadband. The Upper Valley is behind the the rest of the U.S.
- Fiber is the fastest, most reliable technology available.
Why Community-Owned?
A community-owned network has no profit requirements.
Commercial operators, on the other hand, require a complete pay-off of an investment in 3-5 years, requiring urban or suburban population densities. This explains why most of the towns in the project area are underserved.
